Orthopedic Braces

Chiro-Med Rehab Center in Richmond Hill now offers a variety of off the shelf DonJoy and Bauerfeind Medical orthopedic braces. These braces can be used to prevent and treat injuries. Off the shelf braces provide additional light to moderate support reducing the stress on the injured area. This allows the area to rest which helps to reduce or prevent inflammation and painful irritation to the area. The DonJoy and Bauerfeind Medical braces are comfortable, lightweight and easy to use making them perfect for daily use as well as physical activity.

Braces Available

Lower Back - Back brace for the stabilization of the lumbar spine, for example in the event of chronic lumbar vertebral syndrome. The stabilizing orthosis has a muscle-activating effect, relieves the spine and is very low-profile.

Elbow Support – the Elbow brace reduces the strain on the muscles that attach at the elbow. Ideal for patients with tennis and golfers elbow and similar muscle and tendon attachment site irritation or inflammation. Its integral elastic pressure cushion (pad) relieves pressure on the tendon attachments at precisely the right points.

Wrist Support – The wrist brace offers support for mild to moderate injuries involving the wrist preventing its upward and downward movements while still allowing full mobility of the thumb and fingers. Sometimes prescribed for use following diagnosis of a "mouse hand", carpal tunnel syndrome or after an operation or other irritation. It keeps the wrist still while allowing gripping movements.

Thumb Support – Offers light weight and comfortable protection of the wrist and thumb. Ideal for mild to moderate injuries involving the wrist and thumb including dequarvains synovitis or arthritis. Following thumb joint injuries, such as tears or sprain to the collateral ligaments ("skier's thumb"), or for indications of osteoarthritis (arthrosis of first carpometacarpal joint) or irritation, these braces stabilize the thumb saddle and metacarpophalangeal joint.

Wrist Support | Carpometacarpal - In the case of irritation and combination injuries that affect the wrist as well as the thumb carpometacarpal joint and thumb basal joint, this brace immobilizes the wrist and holds the thumb securely in a relaxed position with a support. The construction of the orthosis can be individually adjusted in line with the progress of treatment, whereby the mobility of the thumb basal joint is gradually increased and eventually the thumb support can be removed.

Back Support – the Back support offers mild to moderate support of the lower back by using compressive forces. Also used to keep the area warm and reduce the risk of sprains and strains. Made of an elastic and breathable material

Knee Support – Offers additional support for mild sprains and strains of the muscles and ligament within and surrounding the knee. The brace with lateral joint splints supports the knee joint for indications of slight instability, arthritis or osteoarthritis of the knee. Provides intermittent compression massage, thereby activating the musculature and stimulating the healing process.

Knee Joint - Activation, relief, and stabilization of the knee joint. Provides secure support for mild instability and relieves knee pain and swelling. Produces intermittent massage during movement, relieving pain and stimulating the body’s metabolic response. This improves circulation to bring more oxygenated blood to the affected tissue and reduces pain and swelling in and around the knee.

Knee Strap - Stabilizes and guides the patellar tendon during loading. The narrow, anatomically contoured brace sits under the kneecap and provides relief thanks to a special functional element with pressure points. Soft knitted fabric that is only elastic in one direction guarantees a secure fit and maximum freedom of movement.

Ankle support – Offers additional mild support to weak or injured ankles and is ideal for daily use after a mild ankle sprain or strain. The orthopedic brace with individually adjustable strap system gives your ankle reliable support even whilst in motion and protects against the lateral twisting of the foot

Ankle support | Achilles tendon - This orthopedic brace helps to relieve the Achilles tendon without restricting mobility. An anatomically contoured insert (pad) produces a massage effect, thus stimulating the surrounding tissue.

Ankle support | Toe Splint - Suitable for the correction of a misalignment of the big toe (hallux valgus, bunion) as part of a conservative treatment or after surgery. The anatomically contoured orthosis holds the toe in the correct axis by applying a slight force and stretches shortened parts of the capsule and soft tissues.
